Red Dead Redemption 2 has 9 challenges that a player must complete in order to achieve 100%. At this time I am nearly 60% complete, and have three more challenges to go. I have found that focusing on one challenge does help speed up the progress of finishing the challenge, but looking for similarities where you can achieve two goals at once is a good way to do things. For Example, the Weapons Master challenge had kill three people in ten seconds with throwing knives. The Sharpshooter had kill seven people with head shots consectutively. When I was ready to perform both challenges, I had Arthur rob a train. There were at least ten people. After robbing them, I shot seven in the head, and killed three with throwing knives. Done. It also reduced Arthur’s honor.

That is an aside though, I noticed people treated Arthur differently with low honor versus high honor, because I played the previous two play throughs with high honor. Now doing challenges had reduced the honor towards low due to the bandit challenge and others like sharpshooter and weapons expert.

Many of the challenges required completing some task consecutively. One of the worst was the survivalist challenge where Arthur had to kill 8 small game animals with small game arrows consecutively. This lead to mass slaughter of so many innocent animals, because you miss one animal the count starts at zero again. I would get to seven, miss a shot, and start over. Eventually I went to Emerald Ranch and slaughter innocent chickens. Then there was kill five predators while mounted. Five alligators killed from horseback later.

Once you complete all ten parts of the challenges you can get three pieces of reenforced equipment from the trapper. No matter what challenge, all three have the same effect, they just look different from each other. Do not mix and match, get a complete set, i.e. get the set of Master Hunter reenforced equipment. The matching set gives additional bonuses to the player.

When it comes to some challenges, some were way better and enjoyable to do than others. I will rank all nine in the order of what I felt was worst to best.

#9 – Explorer Challenge – Find treasure maps, find treasures, repeat until done. This challenge could have been so much more interesting and tied to some achievements in the game. Finding and documenting unusual or unique locations could be a part of this. Finding dreamcatchers or stone carvings could have been apart of this.

#8 – Gambler Challenge – This one felt like someone came up with a bunch of ideas related to the internal games, threw them in a hat, and took the first ten drawn as the challenges. The black jack challenges defied basic strategy, and in the end all challenges were just playing the games until dumb luck won out.

#7 – Sharpshooter Challenge – Could have been combine with Weapons Expert in order to make more interesting. Lots of killing of animals for the sake of killing animals. Though some challenges were somewhat easy, others required some research.

#6 – Weapons Expert Challenge – Ranked just above the challenge it could have been combine with, there is more killing of innocent civilians in this challenge versus innocent animals. The final challenge was meant to be very difficult. Kill a Grizzly with Throwing Knives without taking damage. I thought it was the most rediculously easy challenge to do. Two throwing knives, one poison, and one improved throwing knife. Dead Grizzly.

#5 – Survivalist Challenge – Combined hunting, fishing, crafting, and slaughtering of innocent animals. Might have shifted some challenges from Sharpshooter and Weapons Expert into this one, and vise verse. The odd part of this challenge, you cannot start it until you catch at least one bluegill. This is supposed to be established in the main game play, but if you do not catch a bluegill while taking Jack fishing, it might never start and a player will be puzzled.

#4 – Bandit Challenge – This is where honor becomes very low. Some of the challenges require robbing, and can be done easily with planning. Others can end up getting the character killed. Essentially in order to complete these challenges you become a major ass hat. Though some were really fun to do.

#3 – Herbalist Challenge – Exploring the vast map of RDR 2 is enjoyable. Finding herbs and crafting tonics, enjoyable. Except, like some missions, this challenge might not be completed until the Epiloge and you play as John. Some of the Herbs required are in New Austin, and unaccessable to Arthur, at least not with a great amount of effort.

#2 – Horseman Challenge – This is actually one you can achieve as Arthur. The ride from Van Horn to Blackwater requires some planning and practice, but it can be done. The other parts of the challenge are fairly easy and enjoyable to play.

#1 – Master Hunter Challenge – Yes you kill animals in this challenge, but it is for food and pelts. The only reason to kill animals, not just slaughter them. This is the only challenge I completed in all three play throughs because it does have some immediate effect on Arthur’s abilities. Also one of the more easily completed challenges. Then you can get a full set of reenforced equipment from the Trapper.

That is all, and this is just my opinion.
