Re-Branded

January 30th, 2019 by

Been missing some posts, because life is busy.

As I discussed or mentioned in previous posts (Here, Here), I am changing Kid Spider to Teen Spider, and as of now, the website, and all social media accounts are changed to reflect the change.

When I looked at things realistically, there were several stories I would have liked to tell with Kid Spider. Most of the time I try to keep the story lines contained to ten comic strips. So, ten comic strips equal ten weeks. This does not always work out.

Maintaining my current pace of one comic strip per week, it would have been at least five years in real world time for me to move Kid Spider to Teen Spider. With no actual birthdays planned in for the transition. One day Kid Spider would be Teen Spider, without too much explanation, except, five real world years passed. Gorilla Girl would be in college, BagBoy, and CardStock retired, and Helper Monkey, less predominant in the strip.

So, I decided to move things quickly, re-write some story lines, and essentially strip out a lot of clutter. Dimensional travel can be useful, and this will have an impact on the BagBoy Universe in the future. It already has in a way with Speed Bump, and now Teen Spider, but it will have more of an impact.

With the re-branding to Teen Spider, I can be more loose with my story telling. Yes, there are creative writers out there whom would chastise me for not being creative enough to keep Kid Spider flowing, but given certain aspects, I made the right choice for myself creatively. Remember, I created the universe and multiverse contained within the comic, so I know the best way to do things, at least for myself.

There are already stories I had written for Kid Spider that I am reviewing to rewrite to conform to Teen Spider. Until the Re-Branded story line finishes, my options are open. The next story line is written, but I may just substitute a different story line. Once I move forward in one direction, I do not go back or change things. It just means rewriting a story line to conform with the current continuity.

Since I have already introduced time travel and dimensional travel, continuity can be a relative concept. Look at how screwed up the Marvel and DC universe became. DC basically stripped out years of history, then redrafted it all later. Marvel, well, I have not paid too much attention, and from what a few friends have stated, I am better off.

Ultimately, this should all work out.

Into The New Year

January 2nd, 2019 by

As I write this post, I do not have admin access to my website. If you are now reading this, I have gained access.

For some reason, when I went to make my regular Sunday post of the new comic, my admin access was working. I tried several different solutions, before contacting my hosting service. GoDaddy charged me $50 to look into the situation. The person who helped me tried to access the admin page, and came with a blank return. This indicated a problem on the server side.

The site functioned as normal, I just could not administer the site. This upset me somewhat, but what am I going to do. Until I get (got) word that I could do admin to the site, I have to wait.

Hopefully this does not serve as an omen.

I also paid for having my site “secured”, which means Google will rank me. As of the new year, Google will not rank or allow access to dangerous sites or unsecured sites through Chrome browser. Other browsers are following suit. This means more money out of my pocket every couple of years or every year to make sure I conform to the new concepts as dictated by draconian companies.

As for this website, as you know, I have chosen to age Kid Spider into Teen Spider using a god from a machine trick. This means I will also be redoing all the artwork for the social media sites, and some tinkering of the artwork for the main website.

Since winter will last another three months or so, I have plenty of time to work on the comic and get far enough ahead that there will be no interruption of comics, barring failure of the electronic aspects.

Another thing I will be doing is making more YouTube videos. This has become a fun hobby of sorts. I can record video from my iPhone or use my iPhone to record game play. Then edit the video and post on the channel.

If you are reading this, the problems were solved.

WordPress Blog Post Fix

Simple solution if your WordPress blog post is not showing up immediately after publishing.

Not Liking It

December 19th, 2018 by

WordPress was recently updated. For a novice who has no idea about editing code, yeah, I can see how the “Block” concept works. For someone whom has been editing code directly for a very extensive amount of time, the over simplistic approach, is frustrating. Already I have had to fight the actual WordPress settings to get something to look write. Essentially forcing the setup to accept HTML code to properly center video or images.

This is annoying, and I would prefer to have the old method of doing things. WordPress has loaded a lot of preset styles which make no sense, and as a person more advanced in coding, I would prefer to not have all the added on crap. Allowing either a classic editor set up similar to the WordPress of less than six months ago or the more simplistic editor currently running would be nice.

Yes, WordPress does want to compete with Wix and other sites where most people just visually drag and drop stuff to get the look they want. This ease of use will bring in more people who want their own websites. Great. Awesome. But, there are those of us who have been doing coding for so long, this frustratingly moronic development does not make Us feel welcome.

My website has operated with WordPress for at least 9 of the twelve years it has been operational. Maybe less than the nine years stated, but it has been a larger percentage of the site’s existence. I chose WordPress over competition, because WordPress was easier to understand. I no longer recall the competitor I used. The other reason, there was Comic Press, a plug-in which allowed me to produce my own web-comic.

The ease WordPress does afford on many levels, with various plug-ins, coupled with my knowledge of coding, kept me a fan of WordPress. Now, I am losing some of that fandom. When I spend a half hour doing what took me fifteen minutes with the most recent past version of WordPress, this new version seems like a waste of time.

In many of my posts, I enjoy adding some images, and links. When I do a Brady Bunch post, there are links to former posts or external websites, even images I can find on the web. All of this I could do with coding very quickly. Putting in images was a breeze. I copied the previous image set up, pasted, changed the image link, and viola. Even doing the simple process outlined in the past sentence is a major chore with the new WordPress.

I will continue operating this site for now with WordPress, until I can find something comparable or WordPress decides to offer a more classic version.

Sondra Locke

A talented actress, who starred in two of my favorite comedies. She was pretty, but not gorgeous. Sondra was like many actresses in her time. Cast because she had a woman or girl next door quality. This was before Hollywood focused more on glamor than talent.

Sondra passed away in November, but her death was just announced. I will always remember her fondly for the work she did.

Penny Marshall

Another talented actress, she starred in a television series I grew up watching. A gifted director as well, she had the next door quality that was always the focus of Hollywood, up until boob jobs, and plastic surgery could make everyone perfect.

At the time I was writing this post, I found out Penny had passed away. Another part of my youth moves on.
