Friday Fish Fry

I am planning on upgrading my website to reflect the new color scheme and sort of neon vibe that I have going. The problem is just getting it done. I have gone through and built a layout for the website, even copied the PHP and other necessary things and changed some of the information.

The programming is the hard part, I have software ready to transfer the files over to the host when I am done. The good part, once I am done, and happy with the website, I can preview it before going live. This way I will know if I need to tweak some things to get it going.

Hopefully some time in the early part of 2024, my website will be updated.

Proper Tools

April 21st, 2021 by

As a designer, and person whom does some basic physical type work, having proper tools to do the job makes a difference. In this case, my artwork for Teen Spider Adventures.

I had been using photo blue pencils to draw the base art, then I was using a ball point pen to ink over the artwork. Ball point pen ink does not dry well, tends to be uneven in the line work, and overall a ball point pen is not designed for inking work.

I was spending a lot of time in Photoshop correcting problems, and cleaning up the artwork, and it still looked bad to me. So I decided to order proper inking pens from Blick Art Supplies. When those pens arrived, I was happy. It made a huge difference in my work. The lines looked crisp, and once I scan them, the work I spend correcting the lines and art will be less. This means I work more on coloring.

Hopefully it will help me in my endeavors to make the comic feel less like a job, and more like fun again.

No More Walking Dead

July 10th, 2019 by

This came as a shock to me. The comic book, which I have read for a very long time has come to an end. Now what?

As a long time comic book fan, my tastes evolved over the decades, at least three decades of collecting. I had settled on Walking Dead as one of the only regular titles I collect. There were a few superhero titles, but I have dropped them once creative teams changed. There is one historical fiction superhero title I collect, but the creator is having issues, and the comic is late.

I read the Walking Dead, the television universe, is launching a spin off. It deals with the first generation of people whom grew up in the post zombie apocalypse era. Damn. Someone stole my idea. Sometimes I wonder if people are spying on me or reading my mind. Then I give up on the paranoia, and realize, yeah, someone can come up with a similar idea. I work professionally as a graphic designer(ish), and I have seen two people come up with ideas so similar, the ideas are almost exact. The two people were not talking or even communicating, even working for a different company.

Well, I will have to pick up Issue #193, and read it. The spoilers I have read have not deterred me at all. If you read my Game of Thrones posts based on spoilers I read, you should know that by now. I am funny that way.

Into The New Year

January 2nd, 2019 by

As I write this post, I do not have admin access to my website. If you are now reading this, I have gained access.

For some reason, when I went to make my regular Sunday post of the new comic, my admin access was working. I tried several different solutions, before contacting my hosting service. GoDaddy charged me $50 to look into the situation. The person who helped me tried to access the admin page, and came with a blank return. This indicated a problem on the server side.

The site functioned as normal, I just could not administer the site. This upset me somewhat, but what am I going to do. Until I get (got) word that I could do admin to the site, I have to wait.

Hopefully this does not serve as an omen.

I also paid for having my site “secured”, which means Google will rank me. As of the new year, Google will not rank or allow access to dangerous sites or unsecured sites through Chrome browser. Other browsers are following suit. This means more money out of my pocket every couple of years or every year to make sure I conform to the new concepts as dictated by draconian companies.

As for this website, as you know, I have chosen to age Kid Spider into Teen Spider using a god from a machine trick. This means I will also be redoing all the artwork for the social media sites, and some tinkering of the artwork for the main website.

Since winter will last another three months or so, I have plenty of time to work on the comic and get far enough ahead that there will be no interruption of comics, barring failure of the electronic aspects.

Another thing I will be doing is making more YouTube videos. This has become a fun hobby of sorts. I can record video from my iPhone or use my iPhone to record game play. Then edit the video and post on the channel.

If you are reading this, the problems were solved.
