Entourage

Re-watching the series has allowed me to pay more attention to the subtleties of the series. During the time Vincent was pursuing the role of Aquaman, he wore an orange shirt. Aquaman wears an orange top as part of his costume.

The feel of the whole series is very comic book, but then Hollywood does have the feel of unreality. Vincent Chase did play Aquaman in the biggest movie of all times. It beat out Spider-Man in box-office earnings. “Take That Tobe McGuire!” Since then, Spider-Man has been rebooted, and a new actor is playing him. There is rumors they are even rebooting Spider-Man again. Marvel will never get the rights back from Sony.

There are rumors Warner Bros. is contemplating producing an Aquaman movie, after Superman/Batman and a possible JLA movie. Maybe they should consider casting Adrian Grenier in the part? That would be the ultimate Easter Egg. Then again, it would be very heavy handed and obvious, though a lot of fun.

One of the best aspects of Entourage, and I picked this up during the first time I watched the series, is Vincent Chase’s entourage are just extreme external aspects of himself. All are neurotic, which leads me to believe Vincent himself is very neurotic, and his calm cool laid back demeanor hides that. He has displayed his neuroticism a few times, through his actions, and his Entourage has only served to enable the problems or mistakes.

There is also a weird juxtaposition, when one of Vincent’s entourage succeeds, usually Vincent is failing. Also, when one part of Vincent’s life is going well, another part is failing.

Vincent’s Entourage:

Turtle is the extreme pot smoking, wanna succeed, but fails due to his lack of work ethic. Vincent has displayed these characteristics.

Drama is the vain, never really wanting to admit he is aging, and quick tempered actor. Vincent has shown these aspects as well.

E is the romantic, but never seems to get a relationship right, very sexual, but afraid to display or discuss his sexual nature. He is also very concerned about finances and long term. Vincent is somewhat antithesis to this, but does display the hopeless romantic side, and his fear of actually committing to a relationship is masked by his oversexed antics.

Ari is the career driven, vain ego. He is a braggart and bully, unwilling to admit his mistakes. Vincent is definitely vain, wants things his way, and never admits mistakes. Ari also has the stability of a wife and children which Vincent may never have.

This is a great series to watch. HBO has put out great television. In April I won’t have to worry about the Blu-Ray, because HBO Now will be available on AppleTV for a subscription of $15 a month. $14.99 actually, but why quibble about a penny? But, I will keep my Blu-Ray collection as backup. Same goes for the Sopranos.

The series is over, but there is a movie coming out this summer.

Looks like it carries on the odd ball, yet very honest look, Entourage has had at Hollywood.

Thanks for stopping by.
